The nominees for the 98th Academy Awards have been announced, with Canadians Tamara Deverell and Shane Vieau among the five teams nominated for Achievement in Production Design. The Oscars will be presented March 15, 2026, at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles.
Production designer Tamara Deverell and set decorator Shane Vieau are nominated for Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein, joining the teams behind Hamnet, Marty Supreme, One Battle after Another and Sinners in one of the year’s most closely watched craft categories.
The nomination is particularly significant for Canada. Frankenstein was a major international production with substantial work taking place in Toronto, where much of the film’s extensive set construction and soundstage filming was based, alongside filming and location work in the United Kingdom. Deverell and her art department created an ambitious series of physical environments for del Toro’s adaptation of Mary Shelley’s novel, including Victor Frankenstein’s monumental laboratory, the Arctic expedition ship and a wide range of richly detailed interiors and environments.
This marks the second Academy Award nomination for Deverell and Vieau as a team. Both were previously nominated for their work on del Toro’s Nightmare Alley at the 94th Academy Awards in 2022, making their return to the category four years later another major recognition of Canadian design talent on the international stage.
Deverell also has a connection to the CPD community, having appeared as a featured speaker at Canadian Production Design Week in Toronto in 2023.
